This unit is compact and will fit easily under most sink units. One of the main features is the quick lock system which allows it to be installed by most competent DIY enthusiasts. The insinkerator badger 5 is very energy efficient too, using less than 1% of the total water consumption of the average home and it costs approximately 50c per year to run.

During the research we found that the price was the main factor that people were concerned about before purchasing, which made this disposal unit a great choice. The insinkerator badger 5 is easy to install, and if you previously had another unit that used the quick mount system then the installation will be even easier.

Most of the shared comments we read were unfortunately very poor.There were quite a lot of negative comments.This was immediately evident to see by the fact that the 1* reviews equaled the 5* reviews. The biggest complaint that people had was that the housing would crack after about 2 years, which would indicate a design flaw.

Some of the more common things mentioned were:

• The 1/2 hp Dura-drive induction motor is louder than other models however it was still said to be quieter than the older standard models that this unit replaced.
• One thing to notice is that it does not come with a wired-in power cord. So you have to get a cord with a plug and connect it to the unit. You could use the one from the old disposer if you are just replacing it.
• Also, galvanized steel while corrosive resistant is not as durable as stainless steel.

Alternatively the Waste King legend series are the same price, have the same HP, but come with an unlimited warranty for the original purchaser.

Insinkerator Badger 5 is Not Good Value For Money

It is a fact that the insinkerator badger 5 is one of the most widely used waste disposal units in many homes around the world. It is very often marketed to contractors, property management and land lords at whole sale prices.

The main fact is that this unit is an affordable waste disposal but will only last about 3-5 years. There were some positive reviews but unfortunately we felt that they were outweighed by the negatives so in our opinion not a good buy. I think that it is fair to say that it is intended to fit a specific selling price.

It does have a good reputation with building contractors but it is not due to it’s performance but because it is easy to install.

A particular reviewer said that they had 3 insinkerator Badger units installed in the past 10 years, so they tought it was about time they looked at a different brand.
To summerize the insinkerator badger 5 is not really worth the money mainly because of it’s poor performance and although the price is good, there are other brands on the market at the same price and offer far better performance.

A great alternative is the Waste King Legend series. In contrast the amount of 5* reviews almost completely outweighed any negative ones and Amazon are offering it at 60% off the RRP which makes it a perfect alternative.

Don’t Buy an insinkerator badger 5 until you review the Waste King Legend first!
